Class Experience
Students will improve their comfort level of playing guitar, gaining more familiarity with the instrument.
Teacher Jessica has performed at family weddings, school talent shows, fundraisers and open mic nights. Teacher Jessica first learned intro guitar in a high school class, then proceeded to take one-on-one guitar lessons. Teacher Jessica kept practicing at home throughout high school and university, and she still loves playing chord songs to sing along to when time allows. Teacher Jessica has previously taught online ESL classes so she is fairly comfortable teaching virtually. Please note teacher Jessica is not well versed in traditional music theory. She will direct you to other resources to answer theory-related questions. The goal of the class is to learn basic playing so you can then further develop your interests with someone with more technical knowledge of the instrument. Whether you feel like you are introverted or extraverted, guitar is great for both. You can use music to deeply reflect on life, or you can use it to play around campfires with large groups of people very casually. When I would tree-plant in British Columbia for years, guitar was a very popular instrument around the bush camps. My husband and I would send recorded songs to one another to show our love for each other. It is a great instrument to ‘woo’ people with! There are so many great ways for people to explore guitar-playing. I hope you as a student find a special way to continue to enjoy your own guitar playing.
It is suggested that the learner practice at least a half-hour each week.
A six-stringed guitar that can be tuned to standard tuning EADGBe. The teacher will supply a printable set of guitar chord charts and a sample guitar binder starter printable, that you can edit on Google Docs. It can be nice to have your songs printed out to refer to when playing guitar!
Parents and learners can opt-in to written feedback by messaging the teacher. The teacher tries to provide verbal feedback during the lessons.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We use the phrase 'Eddie ate dynamite, goodbye Eddie!' to learn the string names. Students are told to imagine a cartoon for it, like Bugs Bunny.
We will look at guitar music on ultimate-guitar.com to find out how to play student's preferred songs.
