Set Goals like a SMARTIE!

In this one-time Goal setting class, students will learn how to write SMART Goals.  Through the use of both group and individual work, students will define the SMART goals acronym (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timed).  Students will participate in an activity using SMARTIES candies to understand the importance of each letter in the acronym.  As a final activity, to demonstrate understanding, students will write at least one SMART goal that they hope to accomplish within the next 12 months.

Class Structure
• Students are guided through a quick lesson on what SMART goals are and why they are important to being a success in school, on the job, and in life.
• As a group, students will participate in a friendly competition using SMARTIES candies.
• Finally, to demonstrate mastery, students will write a SMART goal that will be achieved in the next year.

Students should have at least two (2) packs of SMARTIES candies. Each pack typically contains 15 pieces.  Each student should have a minimum of 30 individual SMARTIE candy pieces.  It is also important for students to have basic math skills, including add, subtract, and multiply.
