In this 12-week Japanese course for enthusiastic learners who have completed at least Intro 1, Intro 2 and Hiragana, we will continue to build the foundations for fluency in Japanese.

Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will include workbook pages, videos, and vocabulary review. It is necessary when learning a language to have many opportunities between classes to practice and review what students know. Completion of assignments posted in the classroom is highly recommended.
Mastery Evaluation
Final KAHOOT - Informal test of student's knowledge acquired during the course.
Assessment
The learner will constantly be assessing their own progress and will be challenged in class to use what they know with support and positive affirmation.

This Japanese course is for enthusiastic learners who have completed Japanese for Kidz Intro 1, Intro 2 and Hiragana.  Students will use the textbook, Japanese For Young People, to continue to build the foundations for fluency in Japanese.    All written classwork will be done in Hiragana and Katakana. 

Contents: (Session 1)

(**Note: Class syllabus is subject to change at teacher's discretion without notice due to a variety of reasons including but not limited to the age of learners, the season, and the holidays.) 

Students will use the Japanese for Young People (Student Book) and will cover Chapters 1-3 over the 12 week session (approximately one chapter every 3-4 weeks).  Each week, students will have an opportunity to practice target language and vocabulary through conversation with the teacher and classmates.  The text provides a framework for verbal exercises as well as written exercises.  Content from the previous session will also be reinforced throughout the current session.  (**Note: Class syllabus is subject to change at teacher's discretion without notice due to a variety of reasons including but not limited to the age of learners, the season, and the holidays.) 

Students will have access to Quizlet.com vocabulary sets to reinforce textbook learning, as well as to continue to build fluency in reading hiragana.  The class will include multi-media, videos, music, and cultural lessons related to the season or subject matter.   The classroom is an integral part of Japanese for Kidz classes as it allows a place to communicate, share work, and complete homework. It is expected that students are visiting the classroom several times per week. 


Japanese for Young People (Student Book - Volume 1 - Yellow)

Chapter 1 - Introductions (names, countries, numbers 1-10, occupations)
Chapter 2 - Telephone Numbers (everyday objects, numbers 11-20)
Chapter 3 - Time (time, stores, activities, numbers 10-100)
Learning Goals
Student will learn what to say when meeting people for the first time.
Students will learn how to ask and give phone numbers, say please and thank you, and talk about things that are theirs.

Jasmine has nearly 25 years experience teaching English and Japanese as a second language to students of all ages around the world.  In addition, Jasmine lived over sixteen years in Japan in the Kansai and Kanto area, and spent much of her time while there studying Japanese in formal settings as well as independently.   Jasmine-sensei's journey with the Japanese language started when she went to Japan on a homestay at sixteen years of age for a semester in 1992.  Japanese is still one of her greatest passions, and she continues to actively study Japanese with the goal of providing the best instruction and experience for her students.
