Class Experience

US Grade 1
During this weekly class, learners will be presented with themed images. As a small group, learners will discuss who is in the image, what is happening in the image, when it might be happening, where it might be happening, how it might be happening, and why it might be happening. Learners will use the information from the discussion to complete a graphic organizer, and then put together a sentence about the image. Learners will complete approximately 3 - 5 sentences per class, depending on the complexity of their sentences. Learners will also learn about sentence structure, subjects, verbs, and spelling!

Master's Degree in Education from Columbia University Teachers College
Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!
