Beginner Level
Students will be taught how to: Identify and define parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) within a sentence. Describe how the subject and predicate work together in a sentence. Diagram a compound or complex sentence, showing the relationship between clauses. Compare different sentence types (declarative, interrogative, etc.) and identify how their structure differs. Write and diagram a complex sentence that uses a variety of parts of speech and sentence structures. By progressing through these levels, students deepen their understanding of grammar, improve their critical thinking skills, and develop a stronger foundation in both language arts and general cognitive skills. The class is structuref by a lesson shared on my video camera, an example, and then working on similar sentences on their own. This is an AI summary of the parent and student reviews. "Miss Sue is highly effective and engaging. Students of different ages, from kindergarten to high school, found her classes enjoyable and beneficial. She creates a comfortable environment that encourages participation and enthusiasm for learning. Her lesson planning is thoughtful, challenging students appropriately while keeping the material interesting. The students and I enjoy and participate in discussions. Any "on topic" film clips are shown.

With over 30 years of experience teaching middle and high school language arts, I hold a Washington State K-12 Teaching Certificate, a Master’s in Theatre Arts, and a Master’s in Library and Information Science. I’m a firm believer in the power of traditional education, with a particular love for the classics and the timeless wisdom they offer. I find great joy in guiding students as they put together the puzzle pieces of language, especially through the art of sentence diagramming. For me, grammar is not just about rules; it's about unlocking a deeper understanding of how language works, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing students make those connections and learn to appreciate the beauty of language.
My classes appeal to students and parents who share a love for the classics and rigorous learning.
