Sentence Builders: Descriptive Writing

This class is for children who are beginning writers and are still working on writing a single sentence. We will review sentence expectations such as using a capital letter, spaces and punctuation. If your child is writing sentences independently and is ready for writing multiple sentences please check out my Wonderous Writers Series instead. I ask that students keep their camera on for the majority of class. Please reach out ahead of time if this will not work for your child.

Children will decide to draw a picture of themselves somewhere they have actually gone such as a beach, park, or zoo. Then we will participate in a shared writing experience where I type what students say. I will prompt students to answer questions and add more description to their ideas. I will then highlight descriptive words we used in our shared writing experience, parts of a sentence and talk about ways descriptive words can be incorporated into sentences. Children will then write about their drawing. I will be interacting with children while they are writing to provide spelling support, challenge them to use more descriptive words and make sure what they are writing makes sense.
