US Grade 4 - 5
One of the goals of writing is to be as specific and precise as possible. In order to achieve this, "bland" or vague words need to be replaced with words that paint a picture in the reader's head and that convey exactly what you are trying to describe to the reader. Also, many learners keep repeating the same word over and over again in their writing. In this class, we will explore synonyms for these overused words and practice replacing these words in a few paragraph examples. Prior knowledge: Your learner should have a basic reading and spelling level appropriate to their age level. For the most benefit, your learner should be willing to interact with the lesson and share the synonyms they write during our activity with the rest of the class. Please send them to class with a pencil. The summary sheet will be posted in the classroom. Class Rules: We mute so we do not talk over each other, we are kind and respectful to everyone, and if we have a question or comment, we raise our hand. As per the Outschool rules, the camera must be turned on at the beginning of class, so I may verify the learner.
