Sensational Sentences: Beginning Writing 7-9

Sentences are crucial to writing.  But what elements does a sentence have to contain in order to truly be called a sentence?  In this class, we will discuss and explore these 5 elements:  It must start with a capital letter, It must end with the proper punctuation, it must make sense, it must have a subject, and it must have a verb.  After we discuss these, we will read example sentences and decide if they have all five elements.  A sentence also has to have correct capitalization, spelling, and punctuation.  If our sentence examples do not contain these, we will correct them in order for them to become a true sentence.  Also, in some cases, we will add more information and details to make the sentence even better!  If time permits, the student will have the opportunity to write sentences and share them with the class.   I teach in a relaxed manner.  The class is more effective if your learner has some basic reading and spelling skill and can write a simple sentence.  It would not be appropriate for a student who has no reading ability or who is not able to print letters and words.  Class Rules:  We mute so we do not talk over one another, we are kind and respectful to everyone, if we have a question or a comment, we raise our hands, and as per the Outschool rules, the camera must be turned on at the beginning of class so I may verify the learner.
