Our world needs more problem solvers! In this 12 week class, your child will use problem solving strategies to complete seasonal STEM projects. Each scholar will learn and grow from their mistakes and learn how persistence pays off. The fun is likely to continue at home in between classes. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. As your scholar engineers various structures for different purposes or performs experiments, he/she will gain confidence and knowledge.
Week 1: October 10th Apple STEM #1: Supplies needed- a bag of apples with 2-3 cut into 1 in. pieces, toothpicks, straws, craft sticks, 
Week 2: October 17th- Pumpkin STEM: Supplies needed- mini pumpkin, large bowl of water, plastic spoons, craft sticks, straws, tape and candy corn.
Week 3: October 24th- Spider STEM: Supplies needed- string, pipe cleaners, masking tape, a smooth stone on which we can draw a spider, little pumpkins or apples to test the strength of our web.
Week 4: November 3rd- Make Your Own Lava Lamp Experiment: Supplies needed- clear water bottle with cap, vegetable oil, tonic water, food coloring, Alkaseltzer.
Week 5: November 7th- Build a Mayflower STEM: Supplies needed- Tub or bowl of water, aluminum foil, coins, toothpicks, sticky notes or square papers, coins
Week 6: November 14th- .Dancing Corn Experiment: Supplies needed- dried corn, clear jar, vinegar and baking soda.
Week 7: December 5th- Holiday Tree STEM: Supplies needed- toothpicks, green, red and white gum drops.
.Week 8: December 12th- Wintery STEM- Snowball (cotton ball) Launcher: Supplies needed- medium to large paper cup, balloon (or 2), scissors, tape and a cotton ball.
Fake Snow: 1/2 cup measuring cup, baking soda, white hair conditioner, bowl, paper clips
Week 9:December 19th- Santa STEM: Supplies needed- coffee filters, tape, paperclips, string or yarn and printable Santa sent out before lesson.
Week 10: January 2nd- Snowflake Symmetry

Learning Goals

The learners will learn to problem solve as well as persevere as they engineer structures and adapt their plans. Learners will follow the Scientific Method when conducting experiments. They will gain confidence and knowledge as they move through each challenge.
