Description
Class Experience
Combine art and science to make a beautiful and unique artwork! We’ll take advantage of the absorbent property of salt to create a textured painting with vivid colors. This project will be a little messy but guaranteed to be fun and interesting as we watch the salt and paint interact. I encourage learners to discuss their observations as we go along, and all outcomes will be different. Younger learners will need supervision with glue and salt. Students will learn a little about how salt and water molecules interact which explains how the watercolors work in this project. Learners will come away with ideas for making their own artworks outside of class.
A few sheets of thick paper, any color (construction paper or cardstock is good) A container of salt - table salt is fine White glue in the bottle and/or in a container Paint brushes for glue (optional) and paint Droppers (optional - if you don’t have these, a small paintbrush is fine) A tray or something similar to catch excess salt A watercolor set A container of water A covered area to work on
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
