I am a proud, former member of a United States Marine Corps Sniper Team, Second Battalion, Third Marine Division, stationed out of KMCAS, Hawaii. I received extensive training in the military. I attended training such as: jungle survival, cold weather, desert survival and as a combat medic and EMT for that team. I served during the Gulf Wars and have extensive experience in the areas I teach. After my time with the Marines, I entered civilian Law Enforcement in Jacksonville Florida. Today, I share the knowledge I was given with others.
Homework Offered
I will not assign homework but may offer further resources for continued independent learning after each class. I do send out a skills lab after each class so the student has the option of practicing what is learned.Assessments Offered
Learners will be assessed by in-class interactions and participation and optional further independent research.Grades Offered
Paper and pencil to take notes. I will send out a class supply list the first week of class.
This class will deal with potentially scary topics such as wilderness scenarios, disasters, and being lost. However, graphic or gory images, over-the-top illustrations, and/or detailed specifics will not be part of the curriculum. We will be discussing ways to start fires with tools and without tools as a class discussion. We will not actually physically start a fire but parents may want to talk with their student after this class regarding safety. We are also discussing water treatment and will emphasize seeking parent help should they wish to try the technique to purify water. I will always send the student to the parent for supervision in areas where safety is a concern. Parents should be aware we will discuss topics related to wilderness survival and that I will present all of these topics in as positive a manner as possible and in the spirit of survival...and overcoming obstacles.
Sources used will come from information learned in the military during survival training and combat readiness courses as well as personal experience.
