ABOUT THIS CLASS:
This course is a weekly private flute lesson (one on one) for flutists of all levels, from brand new beginners to advanced students, for the duration of the Winter Semester (15 weeks total from November through January). Each lesson is individualized for the student and will cover all of the skills they need to feel confident and joyful when playing the flute. This class has worked wonderfully to support homeschool learners (brand new through advanced), students in a band program looking for individual support, and advanced students working to prep for auditions, competitions, or solo performances.

By taking beginner private lessons, your learner will:

--Improve tone, technique, breathing, and articulation
--Work on music literacy skills, including note reading, rhythm reading, and aural skills
--Set clear goals and work hard to meet them
--Learn all of my practicing tips and tricks to enjoy practicing
--Play games in lessons
--Learn how to build a practice routine

Topics will include the following:
Tone, articulation, technique, breathing, note reading/music theory, scales, posture, rhythm reading, flute history, and repertoire (flute songs).
Students will also have access to lesson notes, handouts, sheet music, lesson recordings, and play along videos as needed in the classroom!
Learning Goals
Students will establish great flute posture, embouchure, tone, articulation, and will learn how to read notes on the staff and rhythms fluently. Students will also work on flute repertoire, phrasing, and musicality.

Hi, I'm Shelby Anderson (Mrs. Shelby)! 🌼

I've been teaching flute in person and online for nine years and I love using my experience as a professional musician to help flutists discover their passion for music. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Morehead State University and received a Graduate Certificate in Flute Performance and Recording & Production from the University of Denver. I am a state certified music teacher in grades Pre-K through 12, and I received KinderFlute teacher training in 2021. 👩‍🎓

I've taught dozens of brand new beginners, as well as advanced students both in person and on Zoom. Together we're able to find a beautiful sound and have a great start to flute playing! I've also coached advanced students on solo repertoire, tone and technique for competitions, college auditions, and scholarship auditions. Whether your student is a brand new beginner, prepping for music school auditions, or somewhere in between, I would love to guide them in their flute playing journey. 🎶

If I'm not teaching flute lessons and classes, I'm probably drinking tea or spending time with my husband and our two cats! 🐱
