This class is designed for students who have previous experience to playing the guitar and basic skills with reading music. During this course young musicians will continue to learn how to read music with a relaxed approach, play melodies on the guitar and begin playing simple chords. Students will work on their sight reading skills. Students will need to purchase a guitar book for this class. Each week students will learn and review music terms and symbols that will help them become more fluent with reading music. As a group, students will work on melodies and chords, but students will be encouraged to also choose a song to work on during the week and play for the teacher and or the class. Weekly topics will include, but not limited to the following: Learning notes, pitches Learning chords Music symbols (accidentals, dynamics and more) Composers/Composition/Improvisation Scales Tentative Schedule *schedule is subject to change: 1/4 Week 1 How to read music notes on the 1st string 1/11 Week 2 Play a song using the 1st string and learn a chord together 1/18 Week 3 What chords do you know? 1/25 Week 4 Play a song of your choice and learn about rhythm and guitar theory 2/1 Week 5 The 2nd string 2/8 Week 6 Notes on the 1st & 2nd string: How to sight read 2/15 Week 7 Can you play the chords? 2/22 Week 8 Rhythm with whole, half, quarter notes, clap and play on the guitar 3/1 Week 9 Write and play in a day. 3/8 Week 10 New music symbols what do they mean on the guitar 3/15 Week 11 Notes on the 3rd string 3/22 Week 12 Let's try strings 1, 2, 3 melodies 3/29 BREAK NO CLASS 4/5 Week 13 Let's just play what we know 4/12 Week 14 Rhythm with whole, half, quarter notes, clap and play on the guitar 4/19 Week 15 Composition day: write and play in a day 4/26 Week 16 Let's just play melodies today 5/3 Week 17 What chords can you play? 5/10 Week 18 Play a fun song! Parents may need to remain close by if their child is playing an electric guitar (for safety).

If you choose to print the additional music that will be sent a folder will be useful.
