Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Please read the full description before enrolling. This will help avoid frustration!
**PROJECTS IS LISTED AT THE END OF THE DESCRIPTION***

**This class is a semester long ongoing class, so to know what week we are on or how many weeks are left, you can message or count the meetings that show up. If you want to begin at the start, you should see 18 meetings scheduled.** Once the session ends, it will begin at a new day and time for your student to catch any topics they missed.

First, I am a certified teacher in various subjects. I have worked in the classroom and taught all grades and subjects for the largest charter school in the US. I have taught these lessons to my students and enjoyed sharing with them about the ancient world. This is structured as a lecture base class with questions, discussion, videos, but a lot of content coming from me on the topic. I provide a TON of resources for you to further topics at home!

There will be 18 weeks in this session, each covering a new topic. I will always provide notes from class, videos to watch if you chose to use them, and plenty of activities and resources to use. These are NOT required, but I provide plenty of resources to learn about the topic beyond my class. If you come into class after the first date listed, just message me to see what week we are on and you can compare that to this list and the one in the classroom to know what has been covered and what is coming up.

Each class is independent of the others and will not build on the previous class, but each class will cover a different ancient civilization or era in time. Students can enroll or drop the class when they please. I felt this was a better way to have this class since it will be quite a bit of information and activities each week that go with the class.

***Please note the following:

1. This class is structured for grades of 5th-8th or higher. My goal is to have students enroll and stay in the class for the full 18 weeks. Also, please note, this class has a lot of information. Some weeks have more discussion, and some weeks have more instruction from me. Due to the fact many students learn differently, I use a mix of written information and videos. I also include some trivia questions in some weeks.
2. Please let your student know I often have a lot to cover. I will ask questions and they are welcome to comment, but please keep questions and comments directed to the topic we are covering. This helps me cover all my info but also gives them time to ask questions and share info.
3. This class fills quickly. If you have to miss class, message me instead of un-enrolling. I cannot promise your spot will be open when you come back. I offer at least one week in the entire session that you can skip class and get a refund while staying enrolled and holding your spot.
4. This class bills on Sundays. Please ensure your payment method is solid. The reason for this is because every Sunday the system will withdraw students due to processing errors. If this happens, I try and send a reminder, but often students lose spots and I cannot open more. Please ensure this does not happen if you want to keep your spot. :)
5. If you are not in actual attendance for 3 weeks in a row, the system will withdraw you.

All materials are in my personal Google Drive created for this class. Once you click the link once, I will approve your access and then you can access anything in my folder. I will provide the link weekly to the classroom where you will find the folder for the week we are on and you can access everything there. Students will have projects throughout class if they choose to do them, or they can just attend and join the conversation.

These are the topics covered:

Each class, I will teach a lesson and have some discussion with the students, and then we will either do a hands on activity in class or I will give a fun activity they can do at home to further learn about the civilization we studied that week. Each week I will upload documents so that you can easily add information and work for the students that want to dive deeper into that civilization.

Extra Info
I offer refunds for missed classes, but I have guidelines on that. This is a popular class and spots fill quickly so always let me know if you want or need to miss and you may qualify for refund, otherwise, you may lose your spot. In order to see if a refund is available, it must meet the following guidelines:
        1. If a makeup class is set by me, due to a class having to be moved, either in the same week or if it has been set in the schedule, you will not receive a refund. You can access recordings and all resources.
        2. If you must miss class, you must ask for a refund before the day of class. If you ask on the day of class or after, no refund will be given.
        3. I only offer up to 2 refunds per 3 months in class with me. If you have a shorter class, shorter than 10 classes, I will only offer 1 refund week in that class.

*Disclaimer - We will discuss culture and traditions in these civilizations. Some of those include things that are not pleasant. Just know I discuss these with the best discretion but I want students to know what happened in these civilizations.

Parental Guidance
This class does cover various ancient civilizations and marginalized groups throughout history. I approach these topics carefully and share historic information from an Ancient World History textbook (2015). I also use other resources that I used in the classroom to give a truthful depiction of these civilizations and events. We will also discuss culture and traditions in these civilizations. Some of those include things that are not pleasant. Just know I discuss these with the best discretion but I want students to know what happened in these civilizations.
