Prerequisite: This class will work on material geared towards 3rd grade Math. Students should have completed Saxon Math for 2nd grade or an equivalent class. Students may take a placement test at https://www.christianbook.com/page/homeschool/math/saxon-math (I am in no way affiliated with this site.) Please let me know if you have any questions. In this course, we will be working through the Saxon Math curriculum. Saxon is a wonderful curriculum that builds on previous knowledge. It takes a spiral approach to learning. Students will need to have workbooks ready each class, as we will be working through the book starting on the first day. The format of the class will be as follows: 1. We will begin class with any questions that the students have related to homework or the previous weeks lesson. Students are encouraged to ask questions and ensure understanding before moving on. 2. Then we will move to the New Material section, where I will work through a variety of problems with the students. 3. We will then work on the Lesson Practice as time permits. 4. Work for the remainder of the week will be assigned, from each lesson, to the learners during class. Homework is not required, but I highly encourage students to work each problem and mark the ones they have questions on, to ask during the next class. If you will be requesting a grade for the semester, please let me know. I will need turned in work in order to assign a grade. Tests will be assigned, but are also optional unless you are requesting a grade. Otherwise, I will not be assigning grades. Enrichment activities may be added based on student need. To be successful, students will need to come prepared to class with their books, writing utensils, questions from their weekly assignments, and their enthusiasm for Math! Students that need extra help can set up a tutoring session with me if they would like. They can also email me any questions that they may have throughout the week. I highly encourage students to utilize IXL.com as an extra resource for additional practice, at home. This is just a suggestion and not mandatory. I am so excited to be teaching Saxon Math, and look forward to having your learner in my class!
