Class experience

Students will learn everything they need to know about the musical theater audition process. They will gain knowledge of what to expect inside the audition room and will strengthen their skills & gain confidence in their abilities as they participate in a live, mock audition during the workshop. Students will learn to overcome their fears and stage fright while increasing their poise and presence on stage and in any area of their life. Vocal and performance skills will be honed and students will leave the workshop with the tools and a clear understanding of how to present an effective and compelling audition for the musical theater.
Amanda Giese has been a professional singer, actress, and teacher of all ages for over 30 years. She has many professional theater and performing credits to her name including the lead role, "Miss Lilly",  in the Golden Horseshoe Show at Disneyland. She has performed in many professional musical theater productions including "Nine", "Mame", "Evita", and "Phantom of the Opera" in Los Angeles, CA and in Orlando, FL. She recorded a Christmas album, and has performed with Big Bands and orchestras in many concert venues and showrooms in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Nashville, and Orlando.
As Founder and Director of "Stagekiz!" and "Youth Theater at the J", she directed many Jr Broadway shows including "Beauty and the Beast", "Seussical the Musical", "Aladdin", "High School Musical", "Peter Pan", and many more. She also coaches and consults with middle and high school thespian troupes, and has adjudicated and presented vocal performance workshops at Florida District Festivals and State Thespian Festivals.
Amanda holds a Bachelor's Degree in Theater and Vocal Performance and has been a private voice teacher and performance coach for over 20 years.
Homework Offered
Students should prepare a song section (16 to 32 bars of music) before the workshop and are encouraged to prepare a monologue to present on the third day of the workshop. Students may wish to continue to work on preparation during the three-day workshop using any of the knowledge they gain during the first day of class. No additional assignments will be given.

Assessments Offered
No formal assessment will be given, however, during the mock audition process, students will be given feedback in real-time from the instructor and the other students in the class. All discussion, feedback, and comments will be constructive, encouraging, and considerate.
Grades Offered
Each student will need a monologue and/or a song to perform. They will also need to use an accompaniment track to perform their song. They may choose to use a "karaoke" track from YouTube if they would like. They will need to use a separate device from the one they are using to attend the workshop. For example, if the student is attending the class on their laptop computer, they will need to use another device, such as their phone or Ipad, to play their accompaniment or karaoke track. They will be able to hear it and the microphone on their laptop will also pick up the sound for us to hear.
Students may wish to bring a notebook to take notes during the workshop.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No inappropriate songs or monologues will be allowed. The instructor will preview all monologues & songs ahead of time.
