You will learn how to compose a portrait. We will paint and or collage in a style of Frida Kahlo. While we are working I will talk about the artist, their style, and their place in history. You can use whatever supplies you have at home, including tempera paint, crayons, pencils, collage, etc.! Learning how to draw and paint a portrait will help you with composition and perspective. This is a great class for anyone interested in any type of figurative art! There will be time for introductions, then I will talk a bit about self portraits through history. I will do a guided drawing to get started. Then we will all paint or collage together. I have a laid back teaching style, not rigid, I am open and flexible. I encourage questions as we are working, by raising hands in the chat. It is helpful to have some experience with art, but you do not need to be any specific level. All welcome!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching kids for over 20 years. I have taught in public and private schools and art associations. On Outschool, I mostly teach drawing and painting classes.
In order to learn how to draw you need to learn how to see. I have two philosophies, one is really learning to "see" by drawing whatever is in front of you. My other is loosen up, relax and have fun. I enjoy teaching art history based lessons and fun process based activities.
A large part of teaching art is building confidence. The only requirement is that you do your best!
I have a dog named Gypsy and two cats, Petra and Pepper.
