Final Presentation Instructions
I have a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics in City Design and Social Science (what they call "Urban Design" in the UK) and a BA in Political Science and Social Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. I also have 3 years of experience as an urban/land use planner, and 20+ years of experience in urban/environmental community issues. I am an Outschool ACE educator and frequently take continuing education trainings on diversity, equity, LGBTQ issues, and more.
Homework Offered
Homework will be reviewed but not assessed, though feedback will be provided.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
A completion certificate is available if the learner submits a final presentation that covers the required topics (in any format they wish.)
Grades Offered
Certificate of completion available to students who submit homework assignments (which are not assessed, but feedback is provided) and submit a final (ungraded) presentation/essay.
Homework and final presentation can be submitted in whatever format (essay, voice note, drawing, pre-recorded presentation) that best suits the learner.
None required, but I recommend note-taking materials and access to the internet for homework and final presentation ( both are optional unless you want a completion certificate)
This class includes frank and factual videos and discussions on the history and current status of the urban design and planning world including race and racism, equality and equity, and environmental issues (including intersectional environmentalism).
Class may reference scientific studies on topics related to class, pulled from reputable new sources. Beyond that, this class uses my experience and education as well as Powerpoint presentations containing images (e.g. of different types of street grids) to spark discussions on the listed topics.
