Class Experience

*Please Note: As a professional teacher, I have years of experience working with students with special needs, i.e. Autism, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Stuttering, etc. All students are welcome in my classes!*

I am SO STOKED to offer this one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive internet safety course! This course takes my popular internet safety class and expands it based on the many parent requests I have received! This 4-week course covers literally everything kids and parents need to know about online safety!

This class helps BOTH kids and parents understand the dangers and preventive strategies that exist to keep our kids safe online.

*Please be aware that there is not pressure to finish the HW every week. It is a choice and not a requirement.*

This course covers my in-depth safety training along with the basics that everyone else teaches, AND real life stories of victims and their experiences, and things they would have done differently. (Age appropriate of course) I also include a cheat sheet for parents that gives a quick breakdown of the content and preventive measures.

A lot of parents have told me that they are very good at monitoring their childrens' online activity, which is awesome, but not enough! Why? Experienced predators don't leave a trace. With apps like snapchat that delete content, there's no way of knowing your child is being secretly groomed by an experienced online predator, or even by someone else they have met in real life, like possibly a teacher. Yikes! Let's dive in, learn together, and keep our kids safe everywhere they go!

HOW THIS COURSE WORKS:

Every Sunday I will post one or two new videos for the week. Videos are about 30 minutes long, sometimes a little more, to give students more time to think about and digest the material. By Wednesday, students are to post a short summary of what they have learned in the video. This summary should be at least 2 sentences, and can be longer if they choose. I will post 1-2 Discussion Questions every week that are to be answered by Friday that are designed to get students thinking critically about what they are learning, and they are designed to help students do a simple recall of material taught.

Students will be able to ask each other questions, give each other feedback, and interact with me as I join their discussions.

To end the class, each student will make a list of their take-aways to post in the discussion section.

There will be A LOT of information taught over these 4 weeks, and it is recommended that students stick to the schedule as best as possible to get the most out of class. Of course, being a flex class, students can complete the material on their own schedule, and they will still learn everything they need to learn!

OPTIONAL LIVE MEETING

In this course, I will offer an optional live meeting in case students want to meet each other, meet me, or simply ask me questions live instead of asking questions for everyone else to see.

I also extend this service to parents who might have additional questions on this topic! Of course parents can still email me, but if they prefer a short live meeting, that is also an option.

THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION OF THE FIRST CLASS

This interactive class focuses on the relationship building strategies and techniques online predators use to gain the trust of kids and to trick them. I use the Socratic method, which employs the art of questioning in order to really engage learners, and to make sure the information they learn is impactful, and is actually retained.

Kids think they're too smart to be fooled online, and they don't understand that intelligence has nothing to do with being groomed. It's all about the emotional connections that predators work so hard to build.

This is a very unique class because I go beyond the normal internet safety advice. We talk about the basics of not sharing information online, being mindful of what and where we post, and the reality that everything we post online lives forever. We go in-depth to learn about how predators earn the trust of the kids they are grooming through taking advantage of emotional vulnerabilities and emotional needs.

Kids will learn the importance of keeping their personal lives private, and they will learn the reality that there are people who lie so they can hurt children. The internet is a really fun place where kids and adults can learn a lot, and it is my goal to make sure it stays that way for our kids!

Teacher expertise and credentials
First things first. If you see a class you really want to take but need a different day or time, please email me! With enough interest, I can open up new times. (Most likely on the weekends).

Hello everyone! So, I love teaching, mentoring, and working with kids. I have my Bachelor's in Elementary Education, my Bachelor's in Writing Arts, my Master's in Educational Leadership, a K-12 Reading Certification, a minor in French, and my middle school certification for teaching language arts, I currently teach 4th grade. I have taught in New Jersey (Where I'm from), North Carolina, Nevada, and now Arizona.

I began mentoring kids when I was 17 years old. Fun fact: one of the kids I have mentored lives in Honduras, and I met him on a trip there with my church in 2007.

My Personal Mission Statement is this: To speak hope where there is no hope; to speak life where there is no life. I love teaching things that are significant, meaningful, and life-long. I believe in teaching kids real-life skills and knowledge that will protect them, and that will help them to make great life choices. I take complicated topics and break them down into fun, easy-to-understand pieces of content that are easily digestible by all learners.

In particular, I love teaching about internet safety, financial literacy, mindset skills, the reality of college, and entrepreneurship. I want kids to learn things about money, college, and entrepreneurship that I never learned so they can avoid the mistakes that I made, and so they can avoid the mistakes that so many other people have made! I believe that when kids learn these essential skills early on in life, they will be able to get a head-start on their competition, and they will be able to make great financial decisions that will eventually lead to real wealth creation!

Parents and kids love my classes because the material taught is relevant and instantly applicable to their lives. Parents and kids alike learn more from my classes than they thought they would, and parents have told me that my classes have helped their kids open up to them about personal topics they never talked about before.

Fun Facts:

1. I have recently started liking anime because my sons love it and they got me into it. My current favorite is DeathNote.
2. The barbell squat is my favorite workout.
3. I love photography, and I used to be a professional photographer.
4. Seinfeld is the greatest show ever created on planet Earth.
5. My favorite car is the Dodge Viper ACR Extreme.
6. Other cars I am working towards buying: Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, Camaro ZL1 1LE, Corvette ZR1 and Corvette C8, BMW M8 Grand Coup, Lincoln Aviator, Aston Martin, and many others!
7. I have inspired several past students to explore and become entrepreneurs, and I look forward to inspiring more!
