Upon request, parents and students can recieve an at-home assessment that reviews information covered during the course to evaluate understanding.Class Experience
Students will learn about a variety of natural disasters that affect our planet. Each week we will learn what causes each phenomena, signs of an approaching disaster, significant disasters in history, and current scientific leaps to make our world safer. For some lessons I will use experiments to demonstrate aspects of the disasters. While not required, students are welcome to preform their own along with us.
Learning Goals
My goal is to educate students on these disasters and encourage the next generation of scientists!

Curriculum
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Hurricanes/Typhoons
Learn about the differences between hurricanes and typhoons and dive in as we see what makes these storms form, the most extreme storms in history, and cutting edge science to help with these storms.

Lesson 2:
Earthquakes/Tsunamis
Learn about the relationship between earthquakes and tsunamis. Join as we see how these events are caused, the extreme levels that they can be seen at, and life saving inventions that are being created.
Lesson 3:
Volcanoes
Join as we climb to the edge and learn about what makes a volcano, where they are located, and the different forms they can take. We will become volcanologists and grow our expertise!
Lesson 4:
Avalanches/Blizzards
Bundle up as we hike to the coldest areas of the world to experience what makes up extremes in cold weather disasters. We will learn of signs to look for in an avalanche and how they affect a large part of our world.

Parental Guidance
*The class will revolve around the discussion of powerful and dangerous storms/events. Seeing the magnitude of these occurrences could be intense for some learners. Care will be taken when discussing sensitive impacts of these events.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am a teacher who taught grades 1st-6th for nine years in the public school system. Now I homeschool my son and daughter while also teaching classes at our local co-op. I hold a current teaching certificate in both Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I believe every child can learn! I believe strongly in using a child's interests to propel their education. I love to teach a variety of skills. I believe children should have a well rounded education and that is why I teach a multitude of topics!
Fun fact: I love to travel but home is my favorite place!
