In this self-paced class, students will learn to do fashion design drawing taking inspiration from a theme - Just like a fashion designer!

Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
6 lessons//6 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Fashion Design Basics
-Students will learn how to use a body template to draw clothing onto a person. -Students will draw from an image to learn how to make the clothes look realistic.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Drawing Techniques
-Students will learn more in-depth about shading and using tone to draw fabric. -Students will learn about fabric drape and how to draw it. -Students will learn about using tone to show shadows and creases in the fabric. -Students will learn about drawing different types of fabric or fabric textures.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Creating a "Theme" Moodboard
-Students will learn how fashion designers use themes as inspiration to design their collections. -Students will decide on their own theme and create an inspirational moodboard -They will use this to help with drawing their designs next week. -This is made on either Powerpoint/Google slides/keynotes/pages
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Start to Design Your Fashion Collecting
-Students will start to draw their fashion collections and then learn how to develop their design ideas. -We will look at types of garments they can draw and start with designing the garment shapes.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Developing Your Designs
-Students will continue designing their fashion collections. -Learning how to incorporate inspiration from their chosen theme. -Aiming to have 4-6 fashion designs completed by the end of the course.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Creating Final Designs and Presenting Work
-Students will work on a creative background to mount their fashion designs - related to their theme. -Students will finish off any incomplete designs and present them on their design board.

Details: Sometimes students may wish to finish tasks set in the lesson so that they are ready for the next lesson.
Paper ( not too thick -printer paper is great)
Body template ( Provided as PDF to print)
Pencil
Eraser
Watercolour pencils OR Watercolour paint
Paintbrush/ water pot.
Fineliner - waterproof if possible ( if not that's ok will just need to let the paint dry before using)
Colouring pencils
Glue
Paper scissors
Be able to print in colour
Powerpoint/Pages/google slides - to create moodboards.
Hairdryer - if you have a non-waterproof fineliner this can speed up the drying process!
Thick card/poster board A3/A2 (UK)  11.0 x 17.0in/17.0 x 11.0in (USA) -white/cream/black ( this is for presenting your designs at the end of the 6 weeks - If you have lots of designs then go for the bigger size)
-You could also present your design in a sketchbook over a double page.
When making the moodboard we will use google image search or students can use Pinterest if they wish to search for inspiration.
