Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students can expect to spend 1-3 hours each week working on their photography skills. Most of this time will be taking photos for class assignments and to continue improving photography skills.

Intermediate - Advanced Level
This 10-week course is the first in a four-part series designed to prepare high school students for a career in professional photography. Focusing on hands-on learning, students will practice photography techniques each week, covering a wide range of subjects from landscapes to portraiture. They will explore different photography specialties, participate in group projects, and work toward building a professional portfolio. Interaction will take place through weekly video lessons and discussion posts where students can share their work and receive feedback.

This course is ideal for students who already know how to use manual camera settings and are ready to delve into professional-level photography. By the end of the class, students will have explored different photography specialties and have a better understanding of their potential career path.

Students will engage in a self-paced, structured learning environment where new video lessons are posted weekly. Assignments include hands-on photography tasks that allow students to practice a variety of skills, from capturing moving animals to creating commercial images. Throughout the course, students will refine their skills, explore photography styles, and work on building a final portfolio that showcases their growth.

This course provides a foundational experience for students serious about entering the world of professional photography, with a focus on real-world skills and portfolio development.

Learners will develop a solid understanding of various photography styles and techniques, including portrait, landscape, and commercial photography.
Learners will practice working in different lighting conditions, both indoors and outdoors, and learn how to adapt their settings for each environment.

Lesson 1:
Types of photography
 Students will learn about the many different types of photography we will explore in this course.

Lesson 2:
Photographing objects
 Students will practice photographing objects of their choice. We review and practice working with different apertures to achieve different depths of field.

Lesson 3:
Photographing moving subjects
 Students will practice photographing animals (pets and/or wildlife).
We review and practice working with different shutter speeds to capture moving animals. 
37 mins of video lessons
Lesson 4:
Landscapes & nature
 Students will practice photographing landscapes and things in nature. 
We will complete our review of manual mode and practice bracketing exposures.

Learning Needs
With a Master's in Special Education, Erika designs our courses to support diverse learners. Our hands-on, interactive lessons foster engagement, and we are open to accommodating any specific needs to ensure to ensure success.
Parental Guidance
Students will choose a cause that is important to them to create an image in the last weeks of class. Each student's own personal experiences will impact their choices and students may choose to share these only with me via message but this particular assignment may bring up a variety of more mature topics.
Pre-Requisites
Self-Paced Learn How to Use Your DSLR or Mirrorless Camera: Manual Settings Learners don't need to be experts but should have a general understanding of apeture, shutter speed & ISO.
Supply List
A camera that allows the student to change their aperture, shutter speed, and ISO is required for this course. 
DSLR or mirrorless cameras are most common. 
Many students will be using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop at this point in their photography education.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
