Description
Class Experience
We will discuss the Netflix documentary "Self Made" about Madam CJ Walker Topics include: Textbook Historical Inaccuracies Hollywood and Colorism Controlling the Narrative Economic and Generational Wealth Former Slaves and Sharecroppers Turned Millionaires A Duty to Community
Students will understanding the difference between factual history and historical narratives. Students will view learn to view history with a more critical lens Students will learn to analyze historical inaccuracies in narratives created by people outside the experience Students will learn about primary sources and how to use them in understanding history
Students will need to watch the show on Netflix. We will have excerpts from books that I will provide copies for.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
