Students will improve their self confidence, build strategies to cope with stress in life as well as build friendships and have comradery with other students. Some young people have a hard time believing in themselves and coping with stressors. This class will give students the ability to learn more about themselves, join with others in their peer group who feel the same way, have a fun outlet of journaling. Students will complete the journal book along with the group as we go through the book. They will be asked questions and have fun participating with their peers. By participating with the class and peers, students will be sharing personal experiences and personal gifts with each other. Confidence in discussing feelings and talking about their own individual goals for becoming more confident. Week 1: introductions and initial goal setting for the class as a group. Brainstorm ideas of what each person may want to gain from the class. (For example, better ways to deal with disappointments, help noticing own gifts, noticing how each person is different and how that's fantastic). Also during this week do the All about me section and chapter as a group. Week 2: As a group students and instructor will work through and do chapters 2, 3 and 4 together. Let's also create a gratitude list together. (Things we are all as people grateful for) Week 3: As a group students and instructor will do chapters 5, 6 and 7 as a group. Also, brainstorm what kinds of challenges make us stronger. Looking at challenges as good things. Week 4: As a group, students and the instructor will do chapters 8, 9 and 10 as a group. Also, emphasis on how we all can make a positive difference in the world. Also incorporated through the class are worksheets and fun activities that the instructor added from their own professional career that adds to the fun. These are fun worksheets that are not required but are optional for learners to do and show to the group if they choose to share.
As an instructor, I come with personal and professional experience that will guide your student to building their confidence as well as socializing with others who are in the same age and stage as your student. Learning to cope with the ups and downs of life is an important skill and I can guide students to find their inner strength and build on strategies of coping with stressors. I am a licensed Social Worker with a Bachelors Degree from an accredited social work university in Wisconsin. I have worked with students and families and helped guide them to believe in lifes challenges and learning more about their personal gifts.
Some reading of the stories of personal kid stories in the book will be assigned periodically. Families may want to read with their learner. These stories are 2-3 pages long and are inspirational stories from kids their own age who persevered various challenges in life. I love success stories and you will too! :)
