In this ongoing class, learners will have the chance to destress from their week by participating in mindfulness activities which include breathing exercises, art journaling and positive affirmations.

Class Experience

This Self-Care for the Artsy Warriors class allows learners to dedicate time once a week from their stressful day to day lives and take care of their mental and emotional needs. Just as exercise is important for the physical body, mindfulness activities are important for optimal mental and emotional health. When we take care of our mental health, we are more likely to lead happier lives, try new things, become more resilient, overcome adversity and build self-esteem. In this class, I use my skills as a Registered Social Worker to guide learners in breathing/ meditation activities, art journaling and positive affirmations.  

The outline of each class is as follows: 

- Introductions & Rules
- Mindfulness breathing/ meditation activity 
- I will pose the journaling prompt/ art activity for the class 
- Learners will have lots of time to self-reflect on the journal prompts and express themselves through the creation of their artwork 
 - We will end each class by reciting positive affirmations 

Art journaling prompts for first 4 weeks: 

Week of January 8th: What's in your heart? What do you love? 
Week of January 15th: What are you grateful for? 
Week of January 22nd: What is your best character trait? 
Week of January 29th: What do you want right now?

*New art journaling prompts will be introduced every week.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to take care of their mental and emotional health. 
- They will learn how to use their breath to stay in the present moment. 
- They will learn how to self reflect on journal prompts and creatively express themselves through art. 
- They will learn about the power of positive affirmations for building self-esteem.

Supply List
- Learners will need an art journal or blank paper 
- Learners are encouraged to bring whatever art materials they have at home such as pencil crayons, crayons, paint, marker, pastels, glitter, etc.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
