Description

Class Experience

I have been teaching in a combination of academic and recreational settings for 15 years, but this course is truly my labor of love! If you've spent much time in education, you know that many of the best math teachers are teachers who are, in fact, not great at math. They're teachers who struggle with numbers and making sense of equations and they really had to do THE WORK to get there. Similarly, I feel I am uniquely qualified to teach this class because I have struggled my whole life with anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and overwhelm. Through my education and loads and loads of research, I have combined and condensed the routines of various very successful people (think Steve Jobs) and come up with a manageable, effective, and fun anxiety busting routine -- a routine I WISH I would've been taught sooner in my own life.

Like I said though, I do have a Masters degree in education and more than 15 years experience working with youth aged 5-18 in both academic and recreational settings. I have found a lot of success in teaching in both online and in-person formats. Before completing my Masters Degree, I earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Mass Communication. Additionally, I taught a program at Boys & Girls Clubs for close to 10 years-- a program that uses a team approach (that involves Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives) to teach young people ages 6-15 by engaging in discussion and role-playing, practicing resilience and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence. In the same role, I taught various fitness, sports, arts, and science classes to youth ages 6-15.

Please note:

This class offers techniques to handle day-to-day stress or anxiety, it does not offer therapeutic support specifically for learners suffering from chronic anxiety or anxiety disorders because that would be a medical service.
-For learners who would benefit from more of a structured journaling style, I will provide an "organizer" prior to the first class-- otherwise, learners can use whatever notebook they would like. -For the "Get Movin'" portion of class, students may like to use light dumbbells (or water bottles, or even soup cans!), but they're not required.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please note:

1. This class offers techniques to handle day-to-day stress or anxiety, but it does not offer therapeutic support specifically for learners suffering from chronic anxiety or anxiety disorders because that would be a medical service.
2. For the "Get Movin'" portion of the class, please ensure your learner has shoes on and space to move. I will be using light dumbbells occasionally, but learners can use two water bottles or even soup cans, if weights are not available or preferred.
