Students will learn how their energy (through their body language) can effect their interaction with a horse. This discussion based class will show video clips on different ways to interact with a horse. Students will see the contrast between a high energy handler and a lower energy handler. They will be able to see which approach gets a better result when asking the horse to perform a task. We will go over a different video each week and have an open discussion about that video. This is a reoccurring class: 10 weeks of unique information then it will start over. Week of (11.9.22): Approaching a horse Week of (11.16.22): Leading a Horse Week of (11.23.22): Control of Horse's Feet: Yielding Week of (11.30.22): Lunging: On a Line and Off Week of (12.7.22): Stopping and Changing Direction Week of (12.14.22): Saddling Your Horse Week of (12.21.22): Mounting, Go and Whoa! Learning Goals
Students will be able to articulate what type of body language and actions lead to positive interactions with horses and which lead to negative interactions with horses. Students will begin to understand how their feelings, actions, and body language affects the world around them. The hope is that the students will be applied in the student's life outside of this class.
