Description

Class Experience

Students will learn what selective breeding is and the potential problems of selectively breeding animals.
Students will see a comparison of original AKC standards for a number of dogs and current standards with physical changes and the negative consequences.
I have taught the topic of selective breeding using dog breeds as an example for many years in my 8th grade science classes. By applying the concept to dogs, the students can easily understand what it is, why we do it and what the potential problems of selectively breeding any animal can be.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
