Note: If you do not see a time that works for your schedule, feel free to click on “show alternative times” above and schedule the class. Theme park rides take you on an exciting adventure and tell incredible stories. This class will go into the secrets behind theme park storytelling to explain how the magic is done. We will examine how a theme park story is formatted, which is very different than typical mediums such as films or books. Along the way we will ask questions such as: What makes an audience connect a theme park ride? How do designers pace the story? What are the psychological elements of story telling the creators use to deliver a full impact? At the end the student will be able to identify the key components to a theme park ride storyline and track the story elements. This is a teacher led lecture that will be accompanied with pictures and video clips in a fast-paced presentation. There will be opportunity for students to participate, and several short fun games along the way to help remember what we have learned. Whether your child enjoys a good story or wants to create some of their own, there will be plenty of interesting things to discover. So climb aboard, but keep your hands and arms inside your zoom window at all times!
