During this 3 week class, students will learn about reading rhythm. Students will learn the basic rhythm notes, rests, time signatures, and measures. We will be doing a lot of clapping as we learn to read and play rhythm, and even have a few fun games! Although students will not be proficient at the end of this class, they will have the basic skills to figure out the simple, and most common, rhythm notes. No musical experience is needed. Our schedule of learning will be: Week 1 - Basic rhythm notes (quarter note, half note, whole note, dotted half note, and eighth notes) and measures in 4/4 time. Week 2 - Time Measures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4), and some rests (quarter rest, half rest). Week 3 - More rests (whole rest, dotted rests), and putting it all together!
Learning Goals
Students will gain a fundamental understanding and application of rhythm. A lot of time will be dedicated to students clapping out rhythms so that they can be confident reading simple rhythms on their own.
