Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
This self-paced reading class for children is designed to introduce young learners to Dolch Sight Words in a fun and interactive way! Because this is a self-paced class, we will not meet together on Zoom. You are free to fit this class into your schedule when the time is best for you! There's lots of FLEXibility!

In this engaging and interactive class, young learners will embark on a thrilling adventure to unlock the secrets of reading through secret code sight words! Children will master reading essential sight words while decoding secret messages.

πŸ“ΊEach lesson includes Sight Word Reader videos (created by myself), which can be watched at any time, and rewatched as many times as needed.

Learning Goals:
βœ”οΈDevelop fluency in reading essential sight words.
βœ”οΈDemonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
βœ”οΈDemonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
βœ”οΈKnow and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

πŸ’‘Dolch words, also known as sight words, account for between 50-75% of all vocabulary found in grade school reading material. Dolch sight words are high frequency English vocabulary commonly used to teach children to read. Learning to recognize them automatically can facilitate fluency in reading. While teaching reading to children starts with the decoding process, as children begin to recognize more words, they gradually transition to sight reading. Sight reading speeds up reading and frees up cognitive resources so they can be used to process less frequent vocabulary and enhance comprehension.

Homework:
✏️Printable worksheets will be provided for reviewing sight words.

🀩Overall, this class offers a dynamic and engaging approach to sight word acquisition, fostering a sense of curiosity and adventure in young learners as they master essential reading skills through the excitement of decoding secret codes.
