Class Experience

US Grade 2
Intermediate Level
In this class, we will dig into the best writing practice to help develop our young writers. Each week we will work on essay structure to a prompt including:
planning to a prompt, writing according to our plan, making editing and revising changes to complete the prompt, and finish writing a 3-5 paragraph essay.
These practices will use content and instruction that students would receive within a brick and mortar classroom for their literacy block. Our instructional focus will support learners who are working on a second grade level or students needing standards based support. The use of google slide, weekly printouts, and guided instruction will help learners grow and develop each class.

For our writing instruction, we will talk about sentence structures to create our own sentences about our plan and complete our essay during the writing process. We will work towards becoming fluent writers and strive towards writing our own response where students can brainstorm, plan, draft, revise with assistance during class, and finish their own pieces. Our goal is to work towards a 5 paragraph essay by the end of the school year in May.

Revision and editing support occurs during class. Learners will be asked to show or share their writing on camera or read back their writing for support and guidance.

Class format-
Each class can function as a stand alone class. Learners are able to come and go within the week. Knowing each part of the writing process helps us develop as a writer.

1st class of the week- introduce prompt, style of writing (narrative, expository, opinion background), and how to create a plan according to a prompt together with a main idea and supporting details. Writing the introduction for our prompt according to our plan will occur. I will guide learners on how to create dynamic introductions that include hooks, settings, transition words, proper structure, and includes details to support the plan.

2nd class of the week- guiding learners on how to write to execute a plan in their body paragraphs and writing a conclusion to finish their prompt. I will guide learners on how to create dynamic sentences that include transition words, proper structure, and includes details to support the plan. Editing and revising also occurs in this class.

***Please understand that essay completion will depend on the class completion of each step of the essay and support needed from learners in our live class. The goal is to complete the introduction, topics/ reasons, and conclusion, but we may not be able to complete all aspects of the essay each week. Please reach out to me with any questions concerning this that you may have.***

Schedule:

****Weekly writing printouts are sent out in advance to the beginning of class. These are used to support the writing process of class and are not mandatory****

I’m a compassionate and charismatic teacher who loves to teach! I have taught Kindergarten through 5th grade students for the last 10 years. In that time, I have been a general education teacher in the public schools setting for 8 years and specialized as a reading coach to my school for an additional two years. I have been teaching online since February 2020. I’m certified to teach Elementary education from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I absolutely love teaching language arts. I have taught second grade writers and their teachers how to develop their craft as a budding author. I have taught these lessons in the public school setting with many students who have mastered the content. I’m looking forward to sharing this fun class with your wonderful writer!
