Consistent early childhood education plays an important role in the lives of children. It provides children with consistent routines and unlimited learning opportunities, and provides families with the security of knowing their child is in a safe and nurturing environment. Having your child attend the class or group throughout their early years allows your child to develop relationships with the teacher and other children in that environment, which provides a sense of security. A child who is comfortable with the people in their life is more likely to participate and grow. In Second Grade Together Learning Pod, students will have a consistent teacher, schedule and classmates as they learn a variety of subjects that constitute a well balanced second grade experience. Students build on their learning experiences together as they learn variety of subjects. The social aspect of second grade is crucially important as students learn to communicate their thoughts, take turns, listen to each other and work together as a group. There will be opportunities for students to grow their social skills in every class. Students will get pdf work sheets for each week's lessons in order for the students to interact with the lessons being taught. Students will often be able to show and share the results of their work (if they feel comfortable) and be praised and encouraged for their accomplishments. As with all of my classes, this will be a fun, interactive and lively class. Shy students will not be forced to verbally respond or interact but active participation will be encouraged. Several times throughout the class schedule we will have a different lesson review game to solidify the lessons already taught and make learning fun. Students will need a dry erase marker and board or a pad of paper and a dark marker for the game days to easily display answers. This will be the schedule for this class: Week 1: Mon: Common/proper nouns (people and animals) Wed: Common/proper nouns (places and things) Fri: Nouns game Week 2: Mon: Addition and subtraction word problems Wed: Addition and subtraction word problems continued Fri: History titanic Week 3: Mon: Pronouns Wed: Possessive pronouns Fri: Pronoun game Week 4: Mon: Adding money Wed: Subtracting money Fri: History Statue of Liberty and Ellis island Week 5 Mon: Capitalization names, places, days, months, holidays Wed: Homophones Fri: Local, State and Federal Government Week 6: Mon: Human Body - Bones and Skin Wed: Human Body - Brain, nerves and muscles Fri: Government Executive branch Week 7: Mon: Human Body- respiratory and what is asthma Wed: Human Body - digestive system Fri: Government Legislative branch Week 8: Mon: Human Body - circulatory system Wed: Human Body - Senses (we have more than 5) Fri: Government Judicial branch Week 9: Mon: Interpreting pictographs Wed: Interpreting bar graphs Fri: Interpreting line graphs Week 10: Mon: Multiplication table 1, 2, 3 Wed: Multiplication table 4, 5 Fri: Multiplication Games This class will give a wide arrangement of subjects and topics for a complete second grade learning experience. As a father to an active 7 year old, I know that learning must be fun. The early years of a child’s education is critical not only for their future success but also their enjoyment of learning. I want to start kids off right on this journey. I have a BA in Student Ministry with nearly 15 years experience teaching children. I have over 4 years of experience teaching children on online platforms and pride myself on never letting kids get bored yet always be learning. I previously held credentials through the State of Ohio Department of Education (now expired). I have taught a variety of subject both online and in the classroom, including math, phonics, social studies, science, languages and health. I have a passion for helping children succeed.
