Description
Class Experience
I hold a science endorsement on my current and valid teaching certificate. I have 28 years public school teaching experience including 4 years as the science specialist teaching students science in grades K-8. I am certified by the Buck Institute in Problem Based Learning (PBL) and STEM. I developed science curriculum for a school system in Georgia and am a Science Ambassador for the state of Georgia. I have received extensive training in the Next Generation Science Standards.
At times throughout the course, learners may choose to work on projects outside of class. Projects will be individual. Work completed outside of class will not be a typical expectation for this 9 week course.
Each week you will be provided with a material list for the following week. Materials may not always be needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
On-going formative assessment based on learner participation will be conducted. A rubric will be used to assess projects in weeks 3 and 8. Rubrics will be provided to learners ahead of class time.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Learners and parents will be provided with weekly updates for the following week. In weeks that include projects, students may need to use scissors, tape or other supplies. To ensure learner safety, it is suggested that adult guidance is provided when using materials such as scissors, tape with a metal cutter or other materials that may need supervision. The teacher will be proactive in suggesting parental guidance from week to week.
