Second Grade Math Monsters Part 4: Addition & Subtraction With Regrouping (Flex)

***Please note, this is a FLEX class. No live classes will take place. Pre-recorded lessons and materials will be provided on a weekly basis.***

This is a FLEXIBLE schedule option for my Ongoing 2nd Grade Math Monsters class! This option allows learners to work at their own pace with the ability to pause or re-watch lessons as many times as needed. This is perfect for learners who have schedule conflicts with the ongoing class or those who are uncomfortable in a class setting. Learners will still have access to Ms. Ally through classroom comments and messaging. 

In this 4 weeks FLEX course, learners will dive into 2nd Grade Math through fun games and activities. Learners will cover 2-digit and 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping as stated in the Common Core Standards (strategies to add and solve word problems with regrouping, and strategies to subtract and solve word problems with regrouping). The breakdown of the course schedule is listed below.

Part 4: ADDITION & SUBRACTION (REGROUPING) 
Week 1: 2-Digit Addition with regrouping
Week 2: 3-Digit Addition with regrouping (up to 1,000) 
Week 3: 2-Digit Subtraction with regrouping
Week 4: NO CLASS-THANKSGIVING BREAK
Week 5: 3-Digit Subtraction with regrouping (up to 1,000)

What does a week in the Math Monsters course look like? 
Each Monday a pre-recorded video, extra practice of the skill, and any other printed materials will be released in the classroom at 7 am CST. Learners are invited to pause the video and answer the virtual questions as they go to check for understanding. Learners will also follow along with the teacher as if they are in a live class using a printed workbook and/or a whiteboard (depending on the week). 
 
At the end of the video, a challenge task or craft will be given to the learners to complete. Learners will then take a screenshot/picture showing completion of the task to post to the classroom. Some weeks will require the learners to explain their thinking through use of the classroom comments or a video. The teacher and learners will comment on the work of others to give positive feedback. Learners will discuss with one another in the classroom comments about any struggles they faced or helpful tips or strategies used. Discussions will be monitored and facilitated by the teacher. This classroom is a safe place where no question or comment is silly! Relationships between the students and teacher will be built through the use of the classroom comments. ***Remember, learners have the ability to pause or re-watch the lesson as many times as they need to and work through the extra practice at their own pace. That is the beauty of a FLEX class! 

Each Wednesday, a fun game covering that week's skill will be posted in the classroom using a Google Slides link. Learners will make their own copy of the game and can use this to reinforce the skills and show understanding. Learners are invited to play as many times as they wish. During the 4-week course, they will have access to any of the games previously posted, so they can return to them at any time to spiral review the material. The games can also be printed to use with a friend or family member! 

Each Thursday a short quiz will be posted using Google Forms to check for understanding. Learners are encouraged to complete this before Friday. The teacher will provide feedback before the start of the next week.
