Class Experience

This four week course meets twice a week and it will help your child to be more prepared and successful for his or her second grade school year. It can be taken as an introduction of some new skills or as a review of some skills. This course is a part two camp and it is a continuation of my first camp. Alternatively, it can be taken independently. You do not need to take the first camp before this one, but this camp is a natural continuation of the first camp. Your learner may already be confident with the skills covered in the part one camp and be ready for this one to start with. Learners will receive a resource packet in addition to the student packet so you will have the materials needed to complete anything that is unfinished during class, outside of class after for additional practice, if you would like to.

This course includes a variety of reading and math skills. It will include direct teacher instruction, followed by guided practice of the skills. It will be interactive with student participation using a variety of activities including: games, songs and/or poems, and reading passages. Each class will include some math and reading. Below is an outline of the content that we will cover. Please review the skills being covered carefully to check if you think this will be a good fit for your learner. I look forward to having your learner in class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Sarah King. I love teaching kids to read and helping them read to learn! I enjoy teaching anything that is reading related, including the areas of comprehension, phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling and vocabulary. I also like teaching writing and social studies. On Outschool, I mostly do individual reading tutoring and I enjoy it so much! I enjoy getting to know my learners and helping them to grow as readers, as well as increasing their confidence and interest in reading. I also have a couple second grade reading and math camps that are fun to teach, as well as a few other interest-based summer camps. I appreciate Outschool because this platform has helped me with making connections with so many wonderful children and families from all over the United States, as well as other countries around the world!

I have been an elementary teacher for 22 years. I was a second-grade teacher for 17 years and currently I am a fifth-grade teacher. My experience includes teaching all subjects, but I am now a departmentalized teacher and teach reading and writing. I also have experience teaching online ESL (English as a Second Language). I have my master's degree in education and I am a certified K-8 teacher in the state of Maine.

I love learning and passing on this love of learning to my students. Learning is best when it is interactive, fun and engaging. I believe I am a patient, encouraging and especially an enthusiastic teacher. I love smiling and laughing with my students!

I am a mom and have two sons, ages 17 and 21. In my free time, I enjoy photography, reading, live music, yoga and taking my dogs on walks. I look forward to teaching your child!
