. The overall goal for second grade is to foster curiosity and encourage questioning through discussion. I want learning to be a fun experience that gives learners the opportunity for deep discussion and increases their understanding of our Country, past and present. I focus on each child and encourage interaction between classmates. I encourage discussion and questions! English Language Arts We will learn all of the standards through Balanced Literacy-Each Month and week we will learn reading, phonics, and grammar strategies that cover every 2nd grade literacy standard! My daily lesson plans reflect explicit instruction with the I Do, We Do, You Do model. Every week we will read a new book and with it learn Story Elements, Character Traits, Morals. We will also learn with some Non Fiction Texts, learn main ideas and details, facts and opinions, POV, The Author's Purpose, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast and poetry. We will have a lot of fun, Read a lot of books, and learn a lot of new words, Grammar, Phonics, Reading Comprehension. By the end of the year, we will have covered every 2nd grade literacy standard. Upon enrollment, you will receive a complete overview of our ELA month by month. Social Studies Throughout the year we will cover these topics- Unit 1- Democracy and Government Unit 2- Historical Thinking Unit 3- Geography Unit 4- Cultures Unit 5-Economics Science We have 5 units for Science- Unit 1- Properties of Matter Unit 2- Habitats and Ecosystems Unit 3- Lifecycles Unit 4- Engineering and the design process We have tons of investigations, at least 3 for every unit, and some will have up to 8 different labs to participate in. Math This year we will be using Math With Confidence Second Grade- A great hands-on lesson with me and a workbook to follow up to ensure understanding of the concepts. Learners will focus on reading, writing, and comparing numbers to 1000, adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers, solving addition and subtraction word problems, telling time, counting money, measuring length, reading graphs, identifying shapes, and understanding simple fractions. Our Math supply Kit, blackline masters will be shared upon enrollment. We have an art project every Friday, and a general art supplies list will be shared upon enrollment. We try to have a lot of fun in this class, and I make sure that each child participates by interacting with them and asking them questions. I do ask that parents be available to help as needed, and that we can be a team together to help your child grow- That means following through with homework, and during class time subjects that your child finds difficult, perhaps you might stick close to encourage your child :) I also ask that you child come to class prepared with materials, and be organized. It can be very sad when kids don't have the materials for class and can't really participate. This class is very hands on! We will be using several books, that you can find on Amazon, and the library. I will always give a two week heads up on what books we are using in case you want to purchase them, or check them out at the library. Remember, libraries love to help- if they don't have it, ask them to get it and they will.
(Second Grade Math With Confidence is a workbook that will need to be purchased)

Hello! My name is Dina, and I am excited to have you here! First and foremost, I am a mama to 4 kidlings. Most are grown and 3 have left the nest, but I have 1 left at home. I love teaching kids. I love the "aha" on a child's face when they understand a new concept. I love the personalities that I come across. I have been teaching English online for several years to children ages 3-16. I have also been a preschool teacher for over 20 years.
If I could have had another career, I might have been a librarian, because I LOVE reading! Reading is one of my favorite hobbies!
Some of my other hobbies include hiking, gardening, my pets, and cooking!
I believe in finding the spark of curiosity that lives in every child, and encouraging it to grow. I hope to inspire my students through engagement with reading, learning, cooking, a positive mindset, play and laughter.
When I am not teaching classes I am a wedding officiant! I get to marry people~ which is so rewarding and special. :)
I have an ECE degree, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Masters in Business, and a Doctorate in Divinity. I also have my TESOL and TOEFL certifications.
I hope you will be inspired to have a class with me, and I am hopeful your child will have as much fun with me, as I plan to with them!
See you in the classroom!
Sincerely, Dina
