The essential standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies will be covered. Content for all subjects will be a combination of teacher-created materials and Core Knowledge materials for a well-rounded liberal arts second-grade education. See this link for copyright information: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ In Reading, we explore fables, folktales, fairy tales, personal narratives, and informational text. Our writing will include foundational grammar skills, as well as writing personal narratives, opinion pieces, and informational text (including researching). Explicit phonics instruction will be included in writing through word study. In Math, we delve into addition and subtraction within 100, data and statistics, place value, measurements, number lines, and word problems. Science will cover matter and electricity. Social Studies respectfully informs learners about the cultures of the Eastern Hemisphere and their histories. The syllabus is likely to shift as individual pacing may differ. We will begin each lesson with a discussion, modeling from the teacher, group work, and individual work. All lessons will be taught from slides and may contain videos, games, and activities.
