Class Experience

US Grade 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Math can be difficult and frustrating for many students. Often times, skills build upon each other creating learning gaps and making more advanced concepts feel impossible.
Other students may find math to be easy breezy! Maybe they are gaining momentum in their current math courses and you are looking for a challenge.
Look no more! This class is perfect for high achieving first graders, fourth grade support, or anyone in between!

In this math class we will use a spiral method to learn 2nd grade math using common core strategies!

Each week our class will have a 2 videos focusing on the same skills. One video is to serve as a introduction to the material that will then be repeated in the second video, more in-depth and with more independent practice.

I'll open a weekly discussion forum for students to share their successes, ask questions, and expect interactions between each other in the process.

Each class will be set up as follows:
Week 1:
Number sense week! We will learn about different ways to represent numbers (using base ten blocks, expanded form, written form, on a number line etc.)

Week 2:
Operations week! We will use addition and subtraction to go in depth on fact families, word problems, and repeated addition. This will also be the week we review different strategies for basic addition and subtraction equations.

Week 3: Measurement & money week! We will understand both formal and informal ways to measure objects. Additionally, we learn all about money going over the basics and using word problems.

Week 4: Geometry, fractions, clocks, and graphs! This is a miscellaneous that will discuss how to read an analog clock, graphs (plot & bar), shape attributes (2D/3D), and fractions! There is also a fun Geometry Scavenger Hunt!
Learning Goals
Students will become confident mathematicians by developing a stronger number sense and practicing different strategies to master 2nd grade math standards.
