"Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny are brothers and sisters. They're orphans too, and the only way they can stay together is to make it on their own. Students & teacher will read the first book in The Boxcar Children series and learn text vocabulary with a focus on story comprehension and structure. Students will learn dramatic reading, how to look for supporting text, and how to express their thoughts on the story's themes.
Students will have the option to read the chapters prior to class but are not required (class will include a dramatic reading of the text). Short, creative homework projects may be requested in order to deepen the understanding of the text themes.
Students will need to obtain a copy of The Boxcar Children (Book 1). The book can be found online for purchase, local library, or public domain. This book is in public domain, therefore copyright permissions are not required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
