Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
WHO: Elementary students looking for a low-tech, high-interaction circle time/ morning meeting experience
WHAT: A morning meeting filled with physical activity, conversation and social interactions, and Waldorf-inspired songs, verses, and stories
WHERE: Here on Outschool from my Waldorf-inspired home studio
WHEN: One half-hour a week with supplemental materials posted to the online classroom
WHY:
* To meet, converse, and interact with other learners
* To acknowledge the importance of seasonal changes, rhythms, and routines
* To show an appreciation for nature and one another
* To practice a growth mindset and positive attitude
* To engage in motor activities such as crossing the midline, core strengthening, emphasizing right and left, balancing and walking on a line, beanbag tossing, folk dances, and more

Each circle/gathering time will begin with a gathering verse and candle lighting time and end with a closing verse and farewell song. In between, some elements you can expect to find each week include:
* songs and games that emphasize left and right and crossing the midline
* verses, action poems, and small motor rhymes that have spiral movements, expansion and contraction, and more
* different traveling movements, including three-fold walking, skipping, marching, and jumping
* core strengthening activities
* folk songs and dances, clapping games, sensory games
* beanbag work

Attention will be paid to the rhythm of expansion and contraction as well as giving the children a chance to interact with one another and share what they are learning. Seasonal elements will be woven into the circle and Ms. Annette will listen to the students and build the circle around their interests and home learning. Because the weekly topics will largely be learner-directed as well as relying heavily on a weekly rhythm, I cannot list a week by week theme or topic, but will update regularly in the online classroom.
