Description
Class Experience
In this 8-week Waldorf-inspired class, learners will review the parts of speech while also strengthening their writing skills and striving to construct sentences that are both creative and grammatically correct. We will begin with a review of the four main parts of speech while looking at what every sentence must have: a noun (naming word), a verb (doing word), a capital letter at the beginning, and a punctuation mark at the end. We will then move into adverbs and adjectives, avoiding run-on...
Students will learn about nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions. They will understand the basic components needed in a sentence, including capitalization and simple punctuation. Learners will recognize run-on sentences and will use the parts of speech and punctuation to construct interesting, creative, and informative writing.
Ms. Annette has successfully schooled her own six children using Waldorf-inspired curriculum, including the Seasons of Joy, which she wrote when they were younger. While her certification is in Music preK-12, she has an English minor and a lifelong love of reading, writing, and the English language and has substitute taught in all subjects, including language arts.
Homework will be suggested and should take no longer than an hour a week.
* A main lesson book OR blank paper in a binder * Colored pencils * Regular pencils and erasers * Index cards * Crayons
At the end of the class, each student will have a main lesson book constructed for this unit.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
