Class Experience

Please note that class age is flexible. younger learners may need more assistance with the recipe, but are welcome to join with parental guidance and support as needed!

In this interactive cooking class, learners will have fun making a delicious and beautiful dessert item: Jam Flower Print Cookies! The recipe will utilize simple, common ingredients - many of which you may already have on hand, or which are easily attainable and inexpensive. Please find ingredients in the "supplies" section.

Fancy kitchen equipment and experience are not necessary. Recipe is learner-friendly without too many complicated ingredients, but younger learners may still need some assistance. The recipe is also be able to be altered to meet dietary restrictions as needed.

We will begin this class with an ice-breaker question and introductions. We will briefly discuss the parts of a flower. Then, we will prep, create, and, if you choose, cook our casserole! This recipe can also be saved once prepared to cook the following morning, so you may choose to use it as a make - ahead breakfast option. This is a popular choice for holidays and/or gatherings, and takes one more thing off your list!

Due to the cook time of this recipe, we will not be tasting the cookies during class, but learners will enjoy the finished product once it is fully cooked after class. The time required to prepare the recipe may vary slightly, depending on the number of learners enrolled and their age/ability and experience level, but I hope to have some sharing time embedded in the class as well. This is a great way to encourage your child to try different foods and flavors they may not otherwise be interested in! They will feel ownership over a recipe they helped to create, and it may just take a to-do off your hands. I will lead the learners through the recipe step by step, completing it along with them so that we are able to troubleshoot and address needs in real-time together. During the course of our time together, learners will also be introduced to various cooking/baking and kitchen safety tips.

Helping in the kitchen develops so many different skills for learners, such as:
-Direction following

-Ingredient knowledge
-Fine motor skills
