This class will teach the differences between seals, sea lions, and walruses. We will not only learn how to classify them, but look at some of their behaviors. I will also be talking about my time working in seal rehabilitation so this would be a great opportunity for students who may be interested in becoming a veterinarian. I teach my classes through active engagement and using Nearpod to make the class more interactive for students. Students do not need any prior knowledge to attend this...
Students will be able to classify various pinnipeds through physical and behavioral traits and become aware of rehabilitation initiatives to help preserve certain species.
I am a former Marine Science major and teacher of multiple science disciplines, including Marine and Environmental Science.
There is no homework assigned.
We will play a matching game at the end of the class to assess knowledge gained.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class uses Nearpod. This is a site students sign into while in class with me. It does not require a download. There are videos shared from You Tube and vetted by the instructor. I will also use screen share to show the lesson. The rehabilitation video shows seal feeding through a funnel. It does not hurt the seal, and I will be narrating the process to show how their unique biology allows the rescuers to do this.
I will bring all the resources.
