Why do sea turtles have flippers? How long can they hold their breath? Why are they so much bigger than turtles I see in the pond? In this class, we'll cover all of these questions and more! This is a beginner's level course and no previous knowledge is required. Here's a quick summary of the class: ~Sea turtle species ~What is an adaptation? ~Shell shape, color, and size ~Flippers vs feet ~Holding their breath ~Esophageal papillae (what's that???) ~Salt secretion ~Migration ~Hands-on review activity/craft Through discussion, photographs, short video clips, and interactive activities on Nearpod, we'll explore the many adaptations that make sea turtles perfectly suited to surviving in the ocean. If time allows, we'll do a quick craft activity to review the sea turtle adaptations. This activity can also be completed after class. Is your learner new to Nearpod? No problem! I have a fun practice lesson they can try on their own before class so they can get comfortable with it. You don't need a Nearpod account and I'll provide simple instructions for accessing the lesson. And the best part...we'll have a special guest, Franklin the Tortoise, my 1 1/2 year old redfoot tortoise! Franklin will help learners visualize and compare sea turtles to their land-dwelling cousins (plus he's an adorable assistant.) We can't wait to SEA you in class!
