From sea monsters to megalodon, swim through a magical journey with the creatures from your favorite maritime stories. We will explore some legendary beasts and take a closer look at some real sharks that inspired some of history's biggest tales! Our journey will take us around the globe debunking myths. Throughout this program, we will investigate the morphology, anatomy, and ecology of these fintastic beasts while calculating growth rates and size!

Learning Needs
The instructor is a licensed board-certified behavior analyst with extensive experience providing therapy and writing curricula for neurodiverse learners. She possesses experience in trauma-informed care and ACT therapy.
Supply List
A handout will be provided to help students use the mathematical formula and estimate shark lengths based on teeth.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Dr. Heather Blackall holds a PhD in Biochemistry, as well as advanced degrees in pharmaceutical sciences, and veterinary medicine with an emphasis on forensic toxicology. She is nationally certified as a toxicological chemist, and possesses multiple state licenses in clinical chemistry. She currently serves as an environmental writer and wildlife conservation consultant for a variety of global entities. She is also a board-certified behavior analyst with experience training both domestic and exotic species.
She has experience with shark research, diving, and tagging. She has been a presenter at SharkCon for the past several years, and has delivered educational programs globally.
