I am going to teach Sea Fever by John Masefield. It is a famous poem about the poet’s love of the sea. We will cover social history such as sailors knowing astronomy and using stars as their compass, and the use of a sextant for navigation. We will look at mechanisms in poetry such as alliteration, repetition, personification, stanza forms and lexis. The students can interact, answer questions and give their own thoughts in this lesson. I teach the material of each lesson in a relaxed, positive and informative way. I will respond to the needs of the learners and change my teaching style accordingly. No precious experience or knowledge of poetry is needed for this lesson. All students are welcome and I will send a copy of the poem to students before the class.
Learning Goals
The learning goal will be to understand this poem and why the sea is so important to the poet.
