In this one-time course, students will learn drawing techniques to sketch a realistic full body portrait of a sea turtle.

Class experience

1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a sea turtle. 
2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast.
3. Students will learn techniques for sketching texture on the turtle's shell and limbs.
Homework Offered
Since there is a lot of detail in this picture, there is a good chance students might need to finish their drawings outside of the scheduled class time.
Assessments Offered
Students will be assessed throughout class and at the end of class through questions and/or sharing of drawings.

REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS: -Paper (Preferably drawing paper, but if you do not have this, regular paper is fine.) -Pencil -Regular everyday eraser (new pencil top erasers work best) -Pencil sharpener -A printed or electronic copy of the sea turtle reference photo we will sketch (available upon enrollment, found in the welcome post) -Blending tool (We will practice blending skills a lot in this class. If you do not have blending stumps, please bring a tissue and/or a Q-Tip. If you are unable to get these supplies, students are fine to use their fingers to blend.) WHAT THE TEACHER WILL BE USING (OPTIONAL): -Drawing paper OR Sketchbook (You can purchase a sketchbook for around $10 on Amazon.) -Wooden pencil -Pencil sharpener -Kneaded eraser (You can purchase a kneaded eraser for around $5 on Amazon.) -Regular everyday eraser -Drawing pencils (You can purchase drawing pencils for around $10 on Amazon.) -White gel pen
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
