Class Experience
In this one time class, you make the choices! Choose what you would like to sculpt and we will socialize and sculpt a miniature together from oven bake polymer clay. I will give instructions on how to turn your inspiration into smaller simpler shapes that can be put together to make the base of your finished piece. Then, we just need to add the details, which is the best part! Sculpting with clay is very relaxing and rewarding to work with while also allowing you to use your creativity to...
An A.S. degree is digital media technology and extensive experience directing art class, girl scouts, and summer camp art activities!
Learners will need: oven bake polymer clay in an assortment of colors. (Any brand is ok, but I will be using Sculpey brand polymer clay) Polymer clay is usually about $2-$3 for a 2 oz. block, there are assortment packs that can be purchased in a wide variety of colors for roughly $15. optional: clay tools for cutting, slicing, or texturing. if you do not have these tools, things like toothpicks and pencils work well also! clay softener or baby oil: if you clay is very hard or older, these are liquids used to soften it so that you can manipulate it more easily.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Learners may need help softening their clay, which involves kneading the clay until it is soft. Sometimes this is difficult for small hands. Parental guidance will be needed to bake creations after class. Instructions will be included on your package of clay (in general, polymer clay is baked at a low oven temperature around 275 degrees for 15 minutes per 1/4" thickness). It is not 100% necessary to bake creations if you want to use the clay again. Baking will harden the clay and make it permanent!
