Sculpt With Polymer Clay: Let's Make a Great Horned Owl
Class experience
In this class we will use a polymer oven bake clay, such as Fimo or Sculpy, to make a more realistic looking great horned owl in mid flight. We will discuss how to use small, simple parts in order to construct a larger, more complex whole. I will show step by step directions and discuss what I am doing, and share some awesome tips on making a realistic representation of nature. The younger learners may require parental assistance making the clay more malleable. At the end of the lesson,...
I have been teaching art for close to 10 years. My focus always was and will remain on the process of making art. It is so important that kids enjoy themselves in their creative expression.
Homework Offered
There is no official homework assigned, but don't be surprised if your learner wants to make an entire family of owls.Assessments Offered
I am happy to provide positive feedback, but there will be no formal assessment.Grades Offered
The students will need the following: * Sculpy or Fimo clay in a variety of colors, colors are subjective, and it is up to each learner what color they want to use for their creation. * Basic clay tools. In the absence of the tools, a toothpick, or a large plastic sewing needle will work for most things. * Something to safely slice the clay with. It needs to be relatively thin. I often use a metal bookmark I bought as a souvenir, in absence of that I have used an apple corer, or even a thin metal ruler. However, there are tools available for cutting clay. I am happy to provide links or photos of the materials upon request.
Note to learners and parents, please be sure to follow instructions when baking the clay. The temperatures for this kind of clay is often quite low (around 250 degrees), and is stated on the clay box or wrapper. The younger learners may require parental assistance making the clay more malleable. At the end of the lesson, once our project is complete, the learners will need assistance with the use the oven in order to bake the completed project.
